What are they all sewing? Aren't they aware of variety of other helpful words such as therefore, thus, in this/that way, consequently, as a result, hence that can be a great substitute for "so"? They're not direct equivalent of "so", however, they're pretty similar to "so" to be used instead of it in many situations.
